Facts and figures

The Faculty of Psychology was founded in 2004 and is one of the youngest Faculties at the University of Vienna. The first chair was implemented in 1922 and the Institute of Psychology was opened in 1934. Currently, there are 15 full professorship positions established and eight further positions for associated professors. Overall, the faculty has on average 280 employees.

- 2100 bachelor students
- 1160 master students
- 105 PhD students

The Dean leads the faculty together with the vice deans and is supported by the Dean’s Office together with the Head of Dean’s Office. All study relevant issues are treated at the StudiesServiceCenter (SSC) and are under responsibility of the Director of Studies and the two Vice Director’s of Studies.

The Faculty consists of three departments:
- Department of Basic Psychological Research and Research Methods
- Department of Applied Psychology: Health, Development, Enhancement and Intervention
- Department of Applied Psychology: Work, Education and Economy

Additionally, an Outpatient Department for Research, Teaching and Practice has been established in October 2017.

Research focuses on the fundamentals of human experience and behaviour as well as on the transfer in different fields of applications. The aim is to get theoretically founded and empirically proofable insights that are relevant to the practical field. Additional to genuine psychological topics, cross-disciplinary questions are investigated in cooperation with other faculties and daepartments.
