Team: University of Vienna: Marko Lüftenegger, Barbara Schober, Christiane Spiel, Monika Finsterwald, Elisabeth Pelikan. University of Augsburg: Markus Dresel, Raven Rina, Nicole Eckerlein.

Institute/Department: Educational Psychology.

Goal of the project: The project PRO-SRL-TRANSFER aimed to enable teachers at Higher Education institutions to support their students in building SRL skills and regulating motivation. It builds on previous work from the projects PRO-SRL and PRO-SRL-EVA.

Why is this important and useful? The ability to learn and work in a self-regulated manner is considered a foundation for lifelong learning. This is particularly relevant because the rapid development of knowledge and technology requires that new competencies be acquired on an ongoing basis.

Abstract: Self-regulated learning refers to directing one's own learning toward a goal, selecting appropriate strategies, monitoring the learning progress, and adjusting strategies as necessary. It also involves activating the necessary motivation to start learning activities and to sustain them even in the face of adversity as well as reflecting at the end of the learning process whether the goal has been achieved and which actions have contributed or hindered it. The PRO-SRL-TRANSFER project aimed to enable teachers to support their students in building SRL skills and motivational regulation. To this end, courses were developed and delivered in which teachers taught key concepts of self-regulated learning and how to promote them. In addition, a comprehensive compendium including both, the theoretical background, and the practical application, is provided. Instruments already developed in previous projects to measure self-regulation and motivation-regulation competencies in students were further developed and are now available as online self-assessments. An accompanying study guide facilitates their use in student counseling.

Explanation - easy to understand: It is important to continue learning even after school and university. To do this, you must know how to learn in the right way. In this project, we show professors how learning works. The professors can and should then teach their students..
